To apply for a Schengen visa from India, follow these steps:
1. Determine the Type of Visa
The Short Stay Schengen Visa (Type C) is the most frequently used visa, permitting individuals to remain in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days for purposes such as tourism, business, or family visits.
Choose the visa that best suits your purpose, whether it be for tourism, business, studies, or other reasons.
2. Find the Relevant Embassy/Consulate
Determine the Schengen country where you will be staying the longest (if visiting several countries) or the country where you will first arrive.
Submit your application through the embassy, consulate, or visa application center (such as VFS Global) of that specific country in India.
3. Complete the Application Form
It is possible to complete the Schengen visa application form either online or by downloading it from the embassy's website.
Make sure that all information is both accurate and comprehensive.
4. Prepare the Required Documents
The basic documents needed are:
Completed application form.
Passport Valid for a minimum of six months beyond the planned duration of stay.
Two passport-sized photos Recent, according to Schengen specifications.
Travel itinerary(airline tickets, accommodations reservations, and more).
Travel insurance(minimum coverage of €30,000) should be provided.
Proof of accommodation Booking accommodations at a hotel or obtaining an invitation letter.
Proof of financial means Financial documents such as bank statements and income tax returns.
Cover letter Clarifying the reason for the visit and its expected length.
Proof of employment Letter of employment or No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer.
5. Schedule an Appointment
Arrange a meeting at the embassy, consulate, or the visa application center (such as VFS Global) that is processing your Schengen visa application.
6. Attend the Visa Interview
Make sure to bring all your documents to your scheduled interview. Be ready to respond to inquiries regarding your travel arrangements.
During the appointment, your biometrics (fingerprints) and photograph will be taken.
7. Pay the Visa Fee
Typically, the cost of a Schengen visa is €90 (approximately INR 8,500), with minor variations possible due to currency rate changes.
There is a discounted fee for children aged 6-12, while those under 6 are not charged.
8. Wait for Processing
Typically, processing times fall between 15 and 30 days. It is advisable to apply with sufficient time before your planned travel date.
If you have submitted your application through a visa center, you can monitor its status online.
9. Collect Your Visa
Upon approval of your visa, you have the option to either pick up your passport in person or have it delivered by courier, based on the selected service.
Additional Tips:
Make sure your passport has a minimum of two empty pages and is less than 10 years old.
Prepare your return flight ticket and adequate evidence of financial resources for the visa application.
