Canada isn't completely stopping work permits for international students from September 2024. However, there are some changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) eligibility criteria ¹.
- Distance Learning: If your program starts on or after September 1, 2024, you must complete at least 50% of your program in-class inside Canada. Time spent studying outside of Canada will be deducted from the length of your PGWP ¹.
- Curriculum Licensing Agreements: Programs delivered by private career colleges on behalf of public PGWP-eligible institutions are not eligible for PGWP, unless you began the program before May 15, 2024 ¹.
- Study Program Requirements: You must complete a study program at a designated learning institution and meet specific program requirements, such as program length and outcome ¹.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for a PGWP, you must:
- Have completed a study program at a designated learning institution
- Maintained full-time status as a student during each semester
- Have a study permit that has been valid within the last 180 days
- Not have already received a PGWP
- Not have studied English or French as a second language, or taken general interest or self-improvement courses ¹
It's essential to review the updated eligibility criteria and requirements with Hatton Cross Immigration Services Team to ensure you understand the changes and how they may affect your situation.
